SHARING YOUR EXPERIENCE

The CANDU team are committed to ensuring that the stories of people affected by cancer are shared in a way that can be both influential and meaningful.

CANDU hosts & organises activities which bring together others affected by cancer to share experiences, build supportive relationships and understand the needs, wants and wishes of local people.  We are also delighted to host Cancer Lived Experience events in Dundee.

We are passionate that the experience of individuals is represented on all relevant health and cancer service decision making forums and strategic boards with equity and respect.

We are delighted to represent the cancer lived experience at the Scottish Government Cross Party Group on Cancer, the NHS Tayside Living With & After Cancer Subgroup and wherever we are invited to share and advise.

In February 2024, artist and creator of both the Great Tapestry of Scotland & The Dundee Tapestry projects, Andrew Crummy, launched The Cancer Tapestry Project.

The aim is to create a Cancer Tapestry that will show a 1000 stories of cancer. To show not only science behind cancer care and the process most cancer patients receive, but the human side of cancer treatment. The compassion and caring that comes not only from doctors, nurses and staff, but from family, friends and community.

In November 2024 Andrew joined us at the CANDU Lived Experience Conference at the V&A Dundee Design Museum to share this project and to support CANDU as we launched our own panel which will share the stories of local people affected by cancer.

This project is ongoing and our sewers meet every Wednesday to work on the CANDU panel.  Please join us to share your story and design your own part of the panel which will be toured widely over the next few years.  Below is the story of the CANDU Panel so far...
